COVID-19 Vaccination Effectiveness in the General Population of an Italian Province: Two Years of Follow-Up
Vaccines (Basel). 2023 Aug 4;11(8):1325. doi: 10.3390/vaccines11081325.ABSTRACTWe carried out a cohort study on the overall population of the province of Pescara, Italy, to assess the real-world effectiveness of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination against infection, severe, or lethal COVID-19, two years after the start of the vaccination campaign. We included all the resident or domiciled subjects, and extracted the official demographic, vaccination, COVID-19, hospital and co-pay exemption datasets from 1 January 2021, up to 15 February 2023. Cox proportional hazards analyses were adjusted for gender, age, diabetes, hypertension, COPD,...

The most common gastrointestinal alterations in patients with post-COVID syndrome
CONCLUSION: We identified female gender, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, hypertension and diabetes as major risk factors of post-COVID syndrome. Vaccinated status may prevent post-COVID gastrointestinal symptoms. Orv Hetil. 2023; 164(31): 1206-1212.PMID:37543972 | DOI:10.1556/650.2023.32839

COVID-19 Antibody Response in Patients with Thalassemia
Conclusion Patients with TDT manifest with mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 and mount a comparable IgG antibody response to COVID-19 akin to controls. However, this serological response could not sustain over three to six months advocating the need for protection through vaccination.PMID:37465812 | PMC:PMC10351617 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.40567

In conclusion, the longevity-associated genotype of FLT1 may confer increased lifespan by protecting against mortality risk posed by hypertension. We suggest that FLT1 expression in individuals with longevity genotype boosts vascular endothelial resilience mechanisms to counteract hypertension-related stress in vital organs and tissues. Epidemiological study of vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 and its impact on COVID-19 progression in a cohort of patients in gran Canaria
Conclusions. Cancer, coronary heart disease, and immunosuppressive treatment were associated with increased COVID-19 mortality. More complete vaccination was associated with lower risk of hospital admission or death. Three doses of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine were highly associated with the prevention of death and hospital admission in all age groups. These findings suggest that COVID-19 vaccination can help bring the pandemic under control.PMID:37366493 | PMC:PMC10288311 | DOI:10.1016/j.vacun.2023.06.005

Overview of COVID-19 mortality in Zoram Medical College, Mizoram: A hospital-based study
CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 is more severe in the older age group above 65 years of age and in males, particularly in the presence of underlying co-morbidities. Mortality was also higher in patients with no history of vaccination as compared with patients vaccinated. Also, delay in hospital admission increases the length of hospital stay and mortality.PMID:37091016 | PMC:PMC10114571 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1251_22

This study investigated whether taller Polish adults live longer than their shorter counterparts. Data on declared height were available from 848,860 individuals who died in the years 2004-2008 in Poland. To allow for the cohort effect, the Z-values were generated. Separately for both sexes, Pearson's r coefficients of correlation were calculated. Subsequently, one way ANOVA was performed. The correlation between adult height and longevity was negative and statistically significant in both men and women. After eliminating the effects of secular trends in height, the correlation was very weak (r = -0.0044 in men and ...

Epidemiological study on the impact of influenza vaccination on the clinical course of patients with COVID-19 and co-infection by both viruses in Gran Canaria, Spain
CONCLUSIONS: Old age, male sex and cancer were independent prognostic factors for mortality. Three doses of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines and influenza vaccines were highly effective in preventing COVID-19-related deaths and hospital admissions. These findings suggest that flu vaccination can help control the pandemic.PMID:36709415 | DOI:10.37201/req/102.2022
